Civics strengthened their lead at the top of the log after beating Orlando Pirates 2-0 at the SKW Stadium on Sunday.
The teams weighed up quite evenly, but in the end a brilliant individual goal by Rudi Louw and a fine striker’s finish by William Chilufya separated the teams in the end.
Pirates striker Ettienne Beukes hit the post with a header early on, while at the other end, Harry Januarie brought off a fine save from a cracking shot by Civics defender Ellington Tjirimuje.
Brilliant goal by Louw
Then in the 40th minute. Louw took centre stage. He received the ball in the middle of the field and went on a weaving run, beating three defenders before unleashing a powerful shot into the corner of the net. It was a brilliant goal that changed the complexion of the game and shortly afterwards Chilufya made it 2-0.
He was put clear by Floris Diergaardt and chipped the ball over the advancing Januarie to put Civics in control.
There wasn’t much to write home about in the second half, bar a fistfight between Tjirimuje and Klaas Blom, which saw them both receiving red cards.
The victory sees Civics moving three points clear at the top of the log.
