Civics moved a step closer to retaining the MTC Namibia Premier League title with an emphatic 3-0 victory against Cymot SKW on Saturday.
Civics created numerous scoring chances in the first half but could not find the target. Striker Geoffrey Roman came close, shooting wide after a great throughball by Rudi Louw, while he had another shot cleared for a corner. Louw also chipped narrowly over the goals after beating the defence.
At the other end, SKW didn't have many chances, although they had a confident appeal for a penalty turned down, after a strong challenge by Ellington Tjirimuje on Johnny Stephanus.
Civics finally opened the scoring shortly before halftime when Jamu Ngatjizeko headed in at the far post from a corner. Just before the break Roman once again found the net after a great run by Dumisa Jantze, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
Chilufya makes it 2-0
Civics went 2-0 up from a corner in the 53rd minute. Rudi Louw headed into the box and William Chilufya stabbed the shot into the net from close range.
SKW had chances of their own but didn't take them. Albertus Cloete had a shot saved by Civics' new keeper Helmuth Maletsky and then Cloete was put clear by Henry Somseb but couldn't control the ball.
In the final minute of the match Civics' substitute striker Richard Biwa received the ball on the edge of the box and beat Heribert Kapeng with a fine shot into the left hand corner.
