Civics drop more points
November 2010:
Civics dropped further points after a 2-0 defeat by SKW late last week and slumped to an unfamiliar third from the bottom spot in the MTC Premiership.
At the end of last month, Civics also leaked points against Black Africa after they went down 1-0, a result that affected the plans of the team to win their remaining fixtures before the first round concludes.
This time, in a match played on a Friday evening, a bout of flu had some of the key players down and the performance of the team on the day was heavily affected by this, according to team manager Paul Stramis.
Stramis singled out key player such as Heini Isaacks who was not as efficient on the the day because of the flu, while at least five other players also suffered from it.
“It is difficult to go out there and win matches with players who are not 100 percent healthy. They tried their best, but the illness affected them heavily and one could tell that their performance was much less intensive and purposeful compared to their previous encounters. We had a few chances but soft finishing made us pay the prize,” said Stramis.
The loss now leaves Civics with only seven points from seven matches played, as they have only won twice this season. They have four losses and one draw.
What is now left is for coach Ali Akan to win his four remaining matches before the first phase of the season comes to an end.
Civics next face Tigers this weekend and with the opposition coming from a win against Blue Waters at the weekend, Civics must regain their focus if they want to topple Tigers, which is in 7th position on the log now.
