Black Africa downs Civics

Civics suffered a 3-0 defeat to current log leaders Black Africa, a result that has put their hopes to the league throne in jeopardy.
Civics new signing and former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lucky Maselesele admitted that the defeat was unfortunate and that the goals came mainly via defensive errors. “To be honest, the result could have been a 0-0 draw in the end but we have to take the flak as our defenders did not do a proper job at the back, said Maselesele who signed up with Civics for the second round of matches.

The loss leaves Civics in 7th on the log with 24 points, buts still has a chance to end in the top three as the second (Ramblers) and third (African Stars) placed teams have 27 and 25 points respectively.

Maselesele said the chances of ending in the top three cannot be ruled out as his side has now done away with the stronger teams in the league and just hope to win their remaining five matches.

“We must just win our five remaining matches and we will be guaranteed a place in the top three. Also, we cannot be ruled out in winning the league in the end if the top teams drop points. Anything at the moment is possible, but we will take it a game at a time,” he said.

Civics has played 17 matches and scored 16 goals, while they have conceded 19 in this campaign.

The team is also vying for cup honours in the Namibia Football Association (NFA) leo Cup and are pitted against Blue Boys. Winning the cup competition will be their biggest bonus for the season if it does not work out in the league.
