Civics look for semi berth

March / April 2011:

AFTER coming from a goalless draw against SKW in the MTC Premiership a week ago, Civics are desperate to do well in the Leo NFA Cup which is due this weekend. Civics will play a quarter-final match against Blue Boys at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo on Saturday and are hoping to advance to the semi-finals of the competition that carries a prize tag of N$500 000 for the winner.

Civics have virtually little chance to clinch the Premiership title they once won three times in a row this season and are now looking at scooping the Leo NFA Cup which also involves powerhouses such as Black Africa, Orlando Pirates and African Stars.

The other teams involved in the semi-finals are Golden Bees from Outjo, Rundu Chiefs from Rundu, while Blue Boys is from coastal town Swakopmund, with the rest all stationed in Windhoek.

Civics striker Costa Khaiseb it is time to pay back the boss for letting the league title slip.
“We owe it to the boss. We must win the Leo Cup and reward the boss with at least a trophy for this season since we will not land the league title. In fact, Im confident that we will beat Blue Boys, not that we underestimate them, but I am confident because we are highly motivated for the encounter,” said the seasoned campaigner.

Coach Ali Akan already announced his starting line-up for the Blue Boys encounter and hopes that they will also make the best out of the match to progress. “We dropped too many points in the league and the ones against SKW were not negotiable but we were just misfiring. There were just too many opportunities that were created but we never seemed to take them. I regret that outcome of the game, but Im looking for ward to the game against Blue Boys. It is a must win game and the players know that,” he said.

The other matches will involve Black Africa taking on Golden Bees, while Eleven Arrows meets Rundu Chiefs.
Pirates and Stars clash in an epic match on Sunday afternoon at 15h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, while the other matches will be played on Saturday in Otjiwarongo.
